Well, it’s been three weeks since I last posted… A lot has happened in 3 weeks. In the next 3 posts, I’ll try and update you on everything, but the reality is, if you weren’t there, you missed it!
After our opening night we continued in our series “Do Something” with a message titled “The Chosen always have Choices”. It was kind of a Nike “Just do it” night. We opened with a recap of the previous week and to keep the vision of “Do Something” alive (and because I suck at basketball), we started off with this Nike video.
This message was based on 1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” 1 Corinthians 10:1-13 (NKJV)
The cool thing about this verse is the word “able”. Notice that it’s used twice here. It’s interesting that Paul used two different forms of the same word. The first is the indicative form of the verb which infers that it is something God has put in you to be able to do. The second is the infinitive form of the verb which infers that it is something you will be able to do time and time again. That being the case, we now know that resisting temptation in life is something that God has enabled us to now and forever be able to do, it’s simply a matter of choosing to do so. Notice that it’s not in our own power that we’re able to resist temptation, but in the Power that God has given us. The only way to do that is to walk in the Spirit as opposed to the flesh. In other words…
the Chosen always have Choices!
We closed with this old Nikey comercial…
